After a wonderful (and hot!) few days working at Archbold Biological Station, the time came to pack up and head down to the Florida Keys. Trip south was uneventful, except for the love bugs (Plecia nearctica). As you can see, they really caused a mess! These flies in the family Bibionidae are extremely abundant at certain times of the year in southern Florida and I think we must have gone right through the area with the highest population density!
Once we arrived at our RV park in Marathon, we took a bit of time off to wash da ‘Bus. With a bit of elbow grease, teamwork, and several breaks for Freezies, we were able to get the Bus back into a presentable form:
